Dannevirke winger Joel Mason is well wrapped up by the Napier pair of flanker Shae Tucker, left, and halfback Hamish Pyne during yesterday's play at the Ross Shield rugby tournament in Napier.
Defending champions Napier maintained their unbeaten run in the Wattie's-sponsored Hawke's Bay Primary Schools event at Park Island with a 42-0 win. The Chris Hewitt-captained Napier side have scored an impressive 167 points without conceding any in their three matches to date.
However, they couldn't produce the player of the match in their victory yesterday as this award went to Dannevirke's only female player, flanker Demi Raleigh, who had a phenomenal defensive work rate and always gained metres with the ball in hand.
Four tries to winger Marewa Karauria saw Wairoa record their first win of the week and maintain the Tino Amato Trophy with a 55-5 win over Central. Karauria received the player-of-the-match award.
Hastings East beat Hastings West 17-10 in the closes match of the tournament to date. East lock Zane Tomalin was the player of the match.
