The Hawke's Bay Cricket Association's (HBCA) problems are quickly becoming Scott Briasco's.
With the HBCA without a cricket development officer, Briasco, the Central Districts director of coaching, is having to do jobs that would normally be farmed out to CD's eight minor associations.
He was at Cornwall Park on Sunday, taking seven first-time coaches through their Level One tuition at the request of Harvey's Cornwall director of cricket David Black. It was an unusual step for Briasco but one he says he has to take if he's going to lift coaching standards throughout the Stags' region.
"David Black wanted to get a course started sooner rather than later and, obviously, with all the goings-on at Hawke's Bay, it was easier for me to do it because there's no-one employed by Hawke's Bay who's responsible for it," said Briasco.
"I think Cornwall has been looking to do it for some time and there's no point saying 'we're going to wait for the Hawke's Bay appointment'."
The HBCA has been without someone in the role since cricket development manager Neil Smith stood down after a short tenure. The word is that their advertising process has finally been successful and a recruitment sub-committee will recommend a new person for the position shortly.
"It's still part of my job but, in terms of Level One courses, I would prefer they were organised from within the districts and that I did re-fresher things for representative coaches," continued Briasco.
"But in this case, I was quite comfortable with it, because the club has gotten something organised. I want to focus on a few things specifically related to age-group cricket and coaching, so I was quite happy to do it in this instance."
