"It takes a lot. You can think you understand how it all works and what the challenges are but until you live and operate in it, you can't fully understand it.
"It is quite unique and there are difficulties that are inherent in the spread of places.
"From where he has been placed with the spread - from Hamilton to all the way to Bay of Plenty and Whangarei and Counties and all over the show - it's much the same as us.
"His ability to bring a fresh approach to how they might have done it into our environment and some of the things they may have done might work well for us."
Henderson says in appointing Ross, Central Districts is on the verge of accomplishing something that was long overdue.
"We've streamlined the job descriptions of everybody.
"I think the review we undertook of CD cricket revealed highly committed and dedicated staff doing everything and everything.
"But we've had to strip that all back to see what was the core role of each area so it's not as though anyone will have a role that's changed dramatically but, if anything, they'll probably have a tighter job description and the workload will be more evenly spread among a group of people who can achieve it all."
Scott Briasco, of Napier, who was a CD Stags selector, has relinquished that responsibility in his new role as the manager of amateur cricket.
Briasco was coaching co-ordinator before that but CD now falls in the ambit of professionalism and the former CD batsman will be happy to focus on the Bay senior men, age-group reps and international cricket obligations.
"That was a decision we came about with him. It was at his suggestion that if that's the way we're heading, he's confident enough managing from his area player and coach development and that he doesn't need to be a selector to do his job.
"That's a sign of his maturity in the organisation and the confidence we have in people at the top end to do the job," Henderson says.
Stags coach Alan Hunt and Gary Cunningham will remain co-selectors.
"In the past, we've had three. Craig will be one of those selectors but it's a matter of him first getting his feet under the table."
Other tweaks mean stalwart Bob Mitchell will have a part-time role.
"Bob was the master of everything so he'll be in marketing and logistics, which is really a co-ordination role," he says of Mitchell, of Napier, who will co-ordinate ticketing and other marketing and administrative duties with international fixtures.
Nigel Brooks is the new manager of district services as opposed to his previous portfolio of development manager for CD.
"He's got a bit more broader role in managing the relationships within our districts given he's located in Levin and spent a lot of time in the districts so it made a lot of sense."
Hunt, Briasco and CD Hinds coach Mike Shrimpton will all report directly to Ross.
"I think that is something which is important to the director's role otherwise you can become a bit too skewed at the top end.
"I think you actually need to have a balance at what's happening at the player development area, particularly in an area such as CD," he says, although it could not be confirmed if CD Stags bowling coach Lance Hamilton will also report to Ross.
The consensus seems to be that the prowess of Ross as bowling coach will add impetus.
No employees have been made redundant or will find their incomes have diminished as a consequence of the restructuring, Henderson says.
