Our mayor's door is wide open to young people in the community and a group of them desperate for a better skatepark in Dannevirke have made the most of her invitation.
Taking Tararua District mayor Tracey Collis at her word, four young people called on her recently, urging the council to consider building a new skatepark.
"If they want something, I want them to know they can come into council offices," Mrs Collis said.
"This is the next generation who will be working with council and I want their first engagement with council to be positive.
"They were very excited about their project and it was fantastic they wanted to work with council. This was a really neat way to connect with our young people."
Tararua District councillor Jim Crispin said he was aware people were travelling out of town to Pahiatua, where the new wheels park had opened at the former saleyards and to Waipukurau to use that town's skatepark.
