This Saturday Totara College will hold its 23rd Garden and Craft Expo, with a special emphasis on the commemoration of World War I.
"The expo always has a family friendly atmosphere, but this year, with Dannevirke Mitre 10 partnering with the school, as well as the support of BLH Contacting and Buckeridge Transport, a special WWI memorial garden has been created," administrator Cath Cameron said.
"The garden will be a place to remember those who gave their all 100 years ago in the battles of World War I, particularly at this time of year when we remember those who fought, died and were injured in the Battle of Passchendaele, which finished with the capture of Passchendaele on November 6, 1917.
"The opening of the garden will take place at 10.25am and we invite members of the public to come and join us and the Dannevirke Highland Pipe Band for this special occasion.
"A path of white crosses and red poppies will lead the way to the garden and people are welcome to leave their own tribute to a loved one in the garden."
On the Expo front, things looked exciting, Mrs Cameron said, with stallholders coming from Waiuku to Foxton.
"There will be something to suit all tastes. Hundreds of spring plants, garden art, garden ornaments not seen at Expo before, including full-size sheep, pigs in a basket and pottery birds which will enhance anyone's garden," she said.
"With handmade chocolates, fudge, confectionery, peanut butter, cheeses, preserves, gift and Christmas buying has never been easier.
