Love, support and prayers from all over the globe are filtering back to Havelock North teenager Kimberly McNeill as she recovers at home from a near-fatal car crash late last year.
Kimberly's father James regularly emailed updates to friends and family all over the world and tapped into healing and prayer groups of several different denominations, spiritual beliefs and outlooks. "All with love in mind for Kimberly, which is just great," he said.
"It's been one of those things that's gaining ongoing interest ... it's really hit a nerve with a lot of people," he said.
Kimberly was on life support for 15 days in Auckland City Hospital. The prognosis was grim and doctors withdrew life support against her family's wishes. The 18-year-old pulled through and after spending the early weeks recovering in Hawke's Bay Hospital, was able to return home last week.
News of her remarkable recovery has captured the interest of national media as well as Fox News in the US.
Mr McNeill was grateful to have the support of friends, family and the local community, which he believed aided his daughter's unexpectedly quick progress.
"We've got a lovely bunch of people always coming around. And great therapists coming around.
"Everyone's on the same page, it's a very healing environment," he said. Kimberly continued to improve each day. She was becoming more animated and her steps were getting stronger. "It's full on and things are going swimmingly."
Worldwide love for Kimberly McNeill
