A 64-year-old woman was killed and four other people injured when a four-wheel-drive vehicle rolled down a bank near Woodville yesterday. The crash happened about 2pm on the access road to Tararua One wind farm, a few kilometres west of Woodville.
Woodville police Constable John Hunter said the Nissan 4WD was travelling east along Hallblock Road when it failed to take a right-hand bend and plunged 30m down a bank.
The woman, who has not been named, died at the scene and the four other occupants were pulled from the car by The Square Trust Rescue Helicopter.
One of the passengers was a teenager, the other occupants were aged 20 to 65. They were taken to Palmerston North Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
Mr Hunter warned drivers to take extra care in the area. "Drive for the conditions ... it's a good road but there's not a lot of it," he said.
"Up there the weather can be fine at 2pm and 20 minutes later it's a mudbath."
