It was a magical evening for over 1000 Hawke's Bay Potter fans who made their own wands, and were sorted into their Hogwarts Houses to celebrate the international Harry Potter Book Night last week.
The Harry Potter enthusiasts gathered at Hastings War Memorial Library on Thursday were among millions taking part in the event, held in schools, and libraries across the globe from Gurgaon in India, to Edmonton in Canada.
It was first held last year ahead of the 20th anniversary of the publishing of the first volume.
On Thursday, Hawke's Bay Potter fans young and old hunted for dragon eggs, had their house colours painted on their arms, called in to the Diagon Alley Book shop, and visited Hagrid's Hut.
The event was organised by Hastings District Libraries and Hastings City Business Association staff, who had painted rocks for dragon's eggs, found local actors to play key Harry Potter roles and designed a realistic 'sorting' hat.
