A pattern of patchy weather and wild wind is heading for the Bay this weekend.
However, the skies should clear for the annual Spring Racing Carnival in Hastings tomorrow.
A series of weather fronts moving along the western part of the country will bring a mixed bag of conditions and could end the week with gale force northwesterlies.
MetService meteorologist Karl Loots said things should remain reasonably settled with gales expected only in exposed areas.
"A strong westerly gradient will cause heavy winds in the region," Mr Loots said.
