A mixed weather bag didn't keep kids from the beach or riders from the trails.

Takaro Trails owner Jenny Ryan said it was a great weekend, with plenty of people getting on a bike.

"We had a considerable number of people through. It was definitely better than Waitangi Weekend last year.

"Heavy rain and high winds only affect us. We have been really busy this summer and as a result, we have bookings right through to the end of April and even in September," Ms Ryan said.

"It is our seventh season, so there is a greater awareness of our product, both internationally and nationally.

"At this time of year, we are dealing with international visitors, so there is not much difference in terms of numbers. Auckland and Wellington anniversary definitely help us, with travellers coming to the Bay."

Metservice meteorologist Angus Hines said the weather was not going to change significantly as the week progressed.

"It has generally been fairly decent.

"With the spell of warm weather that we have had recently, yesterday was slightly cooler at 22 degrees in Napier and Hastings. Napier would rebound to 26 degrees, while Hastings was rather similar at 27 degrees," Mr Hines said.

It would be mostly sunny today, with morning cloud and northeast breezes.

Tomorrow there will be a few morning showers, then fine spells and light winds.

A high of 24C is forecast for both Napier and Hastings.
