High winds will soften as the region heads into a warm week, says MetService meteorologist Claire Flynn.
The maximum gust recorded yesterday was 93 kmph in the Takapau Plains but people will wake to a "mostly fine" day today with high cloud, a chance of a shower in southern Hawke's Bay and a few gusts.
"Tuesday will be even sunnier than Monday - you won't have the high cloud around so much - it will be even sunnier and the winds would have eased further, so Tuesday is looking quite nice," she said.
Tuesday will also bring the warmest day, with a high of 26C forecast for Napier and Hastings, compared with today's early 20C forecast.
"You have winds coming from the north-west still, which helps your temperatures climb up."
