Extra layers and electric blankets will be well used in the coming days as wintry nights are expected for the Bay.
On Wednesday night temperatures in the region dropped to a crisp 4C - with MetService meteorologist Emma Blades saying the region can expect warm days and cold nights.
"While we've seen a settling down period since the early part of the week, things have been far from dull in the last 24 hours around the country," Ms Blades said.
A high pressure system is in place over the country bringing clear skies for heat to escape into at night.
Today the prediction was for fine weather, apart from morning cloud. Southwesterlies should die out in the afternoon, with northwesterlies developing at night.
