Police attempts failed to locate a man last night after a family-related incident in the central North Island.

A police spokesperson said cordons were in place at the Taupo end of State Highway 5 while armed police sought a wanted man in connection to a family harm incident.

The man was not located and police were continuing to make enquiries.

"Police thank local people for their patience while the cordons were in place," a police spokesperson said.

Police did not plan to release further details.
