Police were last night not saying whether any vehicles had been seized in an inquiry into the death of a man found on the road at a Wairoa intersection during the weekend.
The 33-year-old, whose name had still not been publicly released, was found by a police patrol about 5am on Sunday at the intersection of Black and Rutherford Sts, about a block east of the State Highway 2 southern entrance to the town.
In a statement early yesterday, Gisborne-based Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford, of Tairawhiti Area CIB, said that based on inquiries and a scene examination completed on Sunday police believed the man may have been hit by a vehicle, which was likely to have been damaged.
Police had spoken with people who had been at a 21st birthday during the night off Ngamotu Rd, on the northeastern side of the river.
But Mr Ford said police were still wanting to speak with others who had been at the party, anyone who knew of any vehicle that had been damaged since Saturday, and anyone else who could assist with inquiries.
