Napier Labour MP Stuart Nash says encouraging "voter engagement" will be his priority ahead of September's binding regional poll on amalgamation.
The Local Government Commission announced last week voters would decide whether Hawke's Bay's councils should be merged via a postal poll ending on September 15.
"Amalgamation can seem like an abstract concept to some people, so it's up to us to keep the issue at the forefront and highlight its relevance, so voters are able to make an informed decision," Mr Nash said.
"It's crucial that people in affected areas are enrolled, and make sure they vote on this when the time comes."
Mr Nash has been an outspoken critic of amalgamation and has erected anti-amalgamation billboards in the city.
