A discarded petrol container may hold clues to a suspicious fire which ripped through a Napier motorcycle shop on Friday.
The fire broke out at ProCycles in Carnegie Rd, Onekawa about 10.50pm, causing extensive damage to the building, motorbikes, parts and accessories inside.
Detective Ross Alexander said the plastic container was found behind the property in an open area that backed on to Leyland Rd. The space was used to park trucks and boat trailers from neighbouring businesses.
The container was empty but smelt strongly of either petrol or diesel and had a long piece of green twine attached to its handle.
Police believe it may have been used to light the fire.
