Vegetarian options have grown from one or two unexciting offerings to a host of delectable treats that would turn any meat eater.

Two new Hawke's Bay Food and Wine Classic (F.A.W.C!) events have picked up on the demand with two specialised servings, delivering more than just your 5+ a day.

Acclaimed chef Kent Baddeley is on a quest to find the perfect wine and food pairing with a series of vegetable dishes, designed to intrigue and tantalise people's tastebuds.

Vegies vs Vino: Meet Your Match! showcases Baddeley's unique style of agrarian cuisine, renowned for challenging the norm, from 12pm to 3pm at Moana Park on Sunday.

After a four course meal, diners get to judge their preferred match and see how it stacks up against the well honed palates of Baddeley and the winemakers.

The following weekend offers yet another vegetarian delight, in an intimate setting.

Vegestation, as the name suggests is a long table garden party lunch at St George's Restaurant in Havelock North, comprising entirely of vegetarian dishes.

Chef Francky Godinho will be calling on organic produce from his garden to create a four course degustation lunch, with a difference from 12pm to 3pm on Sunday November 9.
