An anomaly in urban street safety is being corrected with the realignment of a street crossing connecting the more western reaches of Onekawa and Marewa in Napier.
The anomaly had been a pathway link to what is locally known as the Marewa Walk beside the Plantation Drain on the city side of Riverbend Rd. An entry and exit point had been on the intersection of Anzac Ave and a bend in Riverbend Rd.
Napier City councillor Annette Brosnan said: "With so many residents, schools and childcare centres using the walkway this unsafe crossing point needed to be addressed.
"The positioning and sightlines made it dangerous for people to cross here.
"Getting practical issues like this sorted is a win for all the local users of the reserve and walkways".
