New Zealand's favourite TV lovebirds have fallen head over heels for Hawke's Bay.

Art Green and Matilda Rice, made famous for the first season of The Bachelor New Zealand, jetted into Napier yesterday for this year's Tremains Art Deco Festival.

The couple's whirlwind visit includes attending the Friday Night with the Stars concert in Napier Sound Shell, the Vintage Car Parade today and the Gatsby Picnic tomorrow.

They were picked up from Hawke's Bay Airport yesterday morning in a vintage car and had five Art Deco outfits each for the entire weekend, chosen by a stylist.

Ms Rice said the couple had never attended the festival before but would be making an effort to come again because it had such a great atmosphere.

"It's awesome ... we're absolutely loving it," she said.

"It's so cool that everyone gets into the spirit of it.

"It's like stepping back in time."

As part of the festival Ms Rice would be a judge for the Fashion Show which she was very excited about, despite claiming not to be a "fashionista".

Another highlight would be today's Great Gatsby Party at Mission Estate, she said.

"I'm really looking forward to that."

Napier was a wonderful city with a good mix of community and city vibe as well as an interesting history, she said.

"The festival really celebrates Napier's uniqueness.

"It's not your average town, I think it's awesome."

Their first day at the festival was very busy but the couple loved it with two more full on days expected today and tomorrow, she said.

Mr Green said that he also found Napier to be a lovely city with happy people and good food.

"We love it, it's an awesome spot," he said.

"Everyone just seems happy, upbeat.

"Everyone has got a good nature, there's no negative vibe."

At Sileni Estate Art Deco Wine Launch & Alfresco Lunch they met a number of locals who were giving the couple advice on where they should buy land if they ever wanted to move here, he said.

Ms Rice said she loved Hawke's Bay so much that it wasn't off the cards for a location for their upcoming wedding.

"We wouldn't rule it out."

The pair had no concrete plans for the nuptials but would start organising it this year.

The couple hope to be back in Hawke's Bay to participate in the half marathon at the Air New Zealand Hawke's Bay International Marathon in May.
