Large numbers of Tukituki Labour candidate Anna Lorck's billboards around Hastings have been vandalised or stolen in the last few days, prompting her to report the behaviour to police.
Although there had been isolated cases of vandalism in areas such as Clive and Grove Roads in recent weeks, the hoardings around Havelock North and between the village and Hastings had been particularly targeted in the last few days, she said.
"They've been stolen, cut in half, punched in - it's appalling behaviour by people with nothing better to do."
She said she needed to report the incidents to police due to her concern about the stolen hoardings reappearing on election day, which was an offence.
She and her team would replace the damaged or stolen billboards, but she was disappointed in the negative reaction.
