Little more than a year after his death, family and friends yesterday remembered the life of entertainer Sir Howard Morrison at the unveiling of a headstone at Whakaue Urupa in Rotorua yesterday.
Hundreds turned out to honour Sir Howard who died suddenly of a heart condition at his Rotorua home on September 24 last year at the age of 74.
His headstone, representing the spiral of life and achievement, was made by young Maori sculptor Joe Kemp.
Tributes were paid by Sir Howard's nephew actor Temuera Morrison and his old friend businessman Owen Glenn.
Opera singer Dame Malvina Major, who often performed with Sir Howard, sang a musical tribute as did rising singing star Elizabeth Marvelly, Sir Howard's niece.
The ceremony was to be followed by a tribute concert by the Howard Morrison Jnr Trio, at the Rotorua Convention Centre today.
The show, called How Great Thou Art, will celebrate his music. The trio features Sir Howard's son Howard Jn
