There was a bad smell in the air at a Hawke's Bay playground this weekend - with tree roots to blame.
At the weekend an area outside Spriggs Park reserve in Napier was cordoned off due to a pool of sewage, which had burst from one of the pumps near there.
On Saturday afternoon Napier City Council were alerted to the spill, with staff taping off an area on Hardinge Rd next to the reserve's playground.
Yesterday a council spokeswoman said the sewerage pumping main there had been damaged by tree root.
