Mr Tosh is focused on making the future better for youth and believed he had the life experience other nominees didn't have.
He said he had worked his way up from the bottom and to even become a candidate for Tukituki was huge.
"I am good at working under pressure and politics is in my blood so I don't think council experience is necessary to be mayor. I just hope people come on board."
The policies Mr Tosh have, which he didn't reveal during his Tukituki campaign, were still to remain under wraps despite receiving a bit of "flack".
"They are tucked away and I hope I can release them sometime but if I'm not here on the earth by then, then someone else can for me."
With applications closing today and five people already in the ring Ms Hazlehurst said it was great to see lots of interest in the role of mayor of Hastings.
"It's really good to hear people are interested and putting their hands up for the position."
Mr Barber was also pleased to see good interest in the role and said if there was a time for people to put their hand up, now was it, with no incumbent.
"Obviously with Sandra acting in the role for the last few months she has advantages but with no incumbency I think anyone has as good as a chance as anyone else."
Mr Nixon, who officially handed his nomination in yesterday, also said it was anybody's race at the moment, but felt people needed council experience if standing for mayor.
"Without experience you don't no the history, the background behind decisions and the manner behind which councils work."
"I don't have a problem with them standing and I don't have a problem with them winning but I do think it is an advantage to have at least one term on council under your belt."
Mr Perry, who isn't currently on the council but has worked for the Hastings District Council previously and a number of other governing bodies, was looking forward to the campaign.
He had already put his billboards up and was out on the streets meeting and greeting people.
"I have had a lot of positive feedback so far and I think the most important thing is to just listen to the people."
After much speculation councillor Damon Harvey said yesterday he would not be running for mayor.
"The timing is not right for me as I have a young family as well as business commitments."
"I also said before last year's council elections that I wanted to complete a full term as a councillor prior to pursuing any mayoral ambitions. This is still my view."
Applications for the Hastings-Havelock North ward councillor also close today at noon with Rion Roben, Rizwaana Latiff and Jason Whaitiri the three nominees so far.
