The identity of a man who is accused of torturing a woman, including claims of rape, intentionally dislocating her limbs and locking her in a small room with his aggressive dog can now be revealed after an interim order suppressing his name expired yesterday.
Timothy James Hebberley, 20, appeared by audio visual link at Napier District Court yesterday and pleaded not guilty to more than 40 charges during a call over for matters dealt with by the Crown.
During his brief appearance wearing a grey t-shirt, he remained silent in front of the screen from Hawke's Bay Regional Prison.
Hebberley initially faced 40 charges relating to two victims, the woman and a relation of hers, during a two year and five month period dating back to April 2013.
On January 16 he appeared before a JP in Hastings District Court. No application for bail was made and he was remanded in custody until his appearance yesterday. An interim name suppression order had been granted but Judge Geof Rea noted that the order had lapsed, lifting suppression when no further application was made.
