Hawke's Bay's best up and coming artisans have been rewarded with thousands of dollars in scholarships to further boost their skills at the EIT Hawke's Bay / Rotary of Greenmeadows Trade Training Awards.
The Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony was initiated in 1978 by the late Jim Callinicos, the second president of the Greenmeadows Rotary Club and former president of the Motor Trade Association, as a way to recognise the achievements of young people.
This year is the 40th anniversary of the awards, and the most accomplished students and apprentices in automotive, carpentry, electrical, engineering, hairdressing,
hospitality and plumbing and gasfitting received certificates of achievement.
The overall top apprentice receives the Mike Davis Memorial Award which is presented annually by his wife, Lola Davis, and this year went to Matthew Macaulay, of Hastings.
The night's other top award, the Repco-sponsored School of Trades and Technology Certificate of Excellence was awarded to construction student Casey Aranui, of Taradale.
