Toilets and a cop shop are among the local standout designs shortlisted for the Gisborne and Hawke's Bay Architecture Awards.
A total of 14 projects from Hawke's Bay feature in the shortlist.
The projects were selected from entries in the awards programme of the Gisborne and Hawke's Bay branch of Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA).
From the Cornwall Park toilets, designed by Citrus Studio Architecture, to Toitoi: Hawke's Bay Arts & Events Centre, drawn up by Dave Pearson Architects, the shortlisted projects include houses, wine bars, health centres and more.
The 2020 Gisborne and Hawke's Bay Architecture Awards shortlist was selected by a jury led by Napier architect Renee Woods, Te Awanga-based architect Yvonne Forrest, fellow Napier architect Ezra Kelly and Auckland architect Gary Lawson.
"Making an awards shortlist decided by your peers is a significant achievement for any architect," Woods said. "It is also really heartening to see what a difference good architecture is making in the communities of our region."
In the Commercial category, EIT Institute of Sport and Health in Hastings, Matisse Wine Bar in Napier and Hastings Health Centre are all nominated, while the Hawke's Bay Opera house is up for the Heritage Award.
For Hospitality, Craggy Range River Lodges, designed by Clarkson Architects, is up against Wine Lounge, designed by C Nott Architects.
Hastings Police Station and Cornwall Park toilets are up for the Public Architecture and Small Project Architecture awards respectively.
The new police site, which opened in December last year, was designed by GHD Woodhead Creative Spaces, while the Hastings-based park toilets were courtesy of Citrus Studio Architecture.
Woods added: "The shortlist includes outstanding examples of a wide range of the types of buildings that architects design."
Site visitors by judges have been put on hold due to the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown.
Resumption of the visits and the adoption of alternative means of deciding award winners are dependent on the national measures adopted to combat the pandemic.
