Three people were left injured after their mobility van rolled down a bank on Saturday afternoon.
The fire service were called to Waimarama Rd just after 4:15pm as two people were trapped in the van, which ran off the road.
Hastings Fire Station incident controller Michael Manning said the vehicleneeded to be stabilised as it landed awkwardly, leaning on a fence.
To stabilise the van, crews from Hastings and Havelock North used chains on the wheels and to extricate the trapped patients they used hydraulic equipment.
"We had to cut through the back of the van to get them out," Mr Manning said.
Mr Manning said it took crews about 30 minutes to free the trapped pair, one who was in a wheelchair.
Two were taken to the Hawke's Bay Hospital emergency department with moderate injuries and one with minor injuries yesterday but all were discharged last night.
