A Havelock North woman's fundraiser turned into a family affair last night with three generations shaving their locks.
Brooke Cummings had her long blond hair shaved by 12-year-old Sam Lawson - who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2015 - as part of the national Shave for a Cure fundraiser for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.
More than 100 people crowded into the Loading Ramp in Havelock North for the event, which has resulted in Mrs Cummings raising more than any other individual around the country at more than $8500 - without last night's takings.
After the shave three offers of $100 were made for any men willing to take the cut, with Mrs Cummings' father Bruce Allen, grandfather Ted Allen and Sam's father Derek Lawson going under the clippers.
The newly bald Mrs Cummings said she felt great and didn't mind the lack of hair because it was nothing compared to what families of children with leukaemia went through.
