There has been a happy ending for 16-year-old Jacob Hulme-Moir who had his $2500 mountain bike stolen last weekend.

His mother Mary contacted Hawke's Bay Today to report that police have recovered the bike.

"He is so stoked," she said.

Jacob's green and black specialised Starjumper evo 29er was stolen in broad daylight from Hawke's Bay Hospital carpark last Saturday afternoon while he was there visiting his sick granddad. He had the bike with him as he was going for a ride up Te Mata Peak afterwards.

Mrs Hulme-Moir relayed that in addition to the bike being found, her father was doing better and had been discharged from hospital.

"It was a stressful weekend, but I feel I can take a breath now," she said.
