Two teenagers were forced to remove their outer clothing before they were attacked by a group of six people.

The assault occurred on Wednesday at 8.30pm as two young men were relaxing in their car in the carpark opposite Bluewater Stadium after attending a sports game.

The were approached by up to six males who were described as being in their mid 20s, Maori and wearing dark colours.

One was said to be wearing a black bandana.

One of the victims had their cellphone taken before the group left in several vehicles.

Police described one of the vehicles as an old white station wagon in poor condition.

The second car had "either blue or green neon lights running along the sides of its base."

Detective Hamish Urquhart said police are asking people to come forward if they were in the area around the time of the attack.

It's the second despicable attack that has occurred in Hawke's Bay within four days, as an 87 year old man was kidnapped in the Hastings supermarket carpark last Saturday.

Detective Sarah Williams said about 3.55pm the man was forced into the back of his white hatchback car by offenders who drove the man to several money machines where he was forced to withdraw money.

In June a Hastings man was left lying in Hawke's Bay Hospital with an axe wound to the chest after two males entered the property on Riverslea Rd.

A 33-year-old Hastings man appeared in Hastings District Court on Tuesday on two charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was remanded in custody to appear again at the end of the month.

A serious assault also took place in Waipukurau this year after a woman ended up in Hawke's Bay hospital.

Police were asking people to report any suspicious activity around Holt Place or Tavistock Rd in Waipukurau at the time.

In the latest incident, police are asking people who have information can speak to them at Napier Central Station or by calling 06 831 0700 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
