Late last night a Taradale service station was robbed by two men wielding knifes and demanding cash.

At about 11.10pm two offenders wearing red bandannas entered the Z garage on Lee Rd, Taradale, a police spokeswoman said.

The female shop attendant had opened the doors to allow a customer in to purchase cigarettes.

After the customer left and before the shop assistant could lock the doors, two male Maori entered the store and confronted the woman with knives, demanding cash and cigarettes.

The offenders fled down a service alley behind the garage with cash and three packets of cigarettes.

A police dog tracked the offenders for a short distance behind the shops where it is believed the offenders had a vehicle waiting.

Police said the shop attendant was shaken but not injured.

One offender was wearing a black jersey and grey trackpants, there was no description of the second offender.

Despite extensive searches of the area last night, police were not able to locate the offenders.

Police urged anyone with information about last night's robbery or anyone who was in the Lee Rd area about 9pm last night.

Anyone with information should contact HB Police on 06 8310700 or information can be left anonymously on Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
