IronMaori introduced two new events for the younger generation at Napier's Ahuriri this morning, ahead of tomorrow's half-ironman.
The Tamariki (7 to 12 years) races started at 9am with seven to nine year olds taking on a 100 metre swim and 1km run, and the 10 to 12 year olds a 200 metre swim and 3km run. Tirau Wihongi, 12, of Napier won this event.
The Rangatahi (youth) event is scheduled to start at 11.30am and will require competitors to swim 500m, bike 14km and run 3km.
The main event tomorrow will feature more than 1500 competitors taking on the 2km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run as individuals or in teams.
This is the third IronMaori.
