Having a couple of dogs and no one to look after them while you're out on a Sunday jog shouldn't be a problem for anyone taking part in the Hawke's Bay Today Country2Coast fun run and walk next month.
They can take part too, and for them it's free, says Havelock North Rotary Club president Jessica Dufty, whose club runs the April 29 all-ages, all-levels "family fun" event which makes use of a network of Rotary Pathways between Napier, Hastings and Haumoana.
Mrs Dufty said allowing dogs on leads in the event, which the club first staged in 2010, is part of making it family-friendly, in the hope of restoring it to some of its former glory, when it attracted more than 1200 people.
Last year it attracted under 500. Pushchairs and prams are also allowed on the course.
The event comprises separate runs and walks of 3km, 8km and 17km, with starts at Waitangi Reserve and at Haumoana and converging on the single finish line at Farndon Park, Clive.
