Meanwhile, to add extra excitement, the winning bidder and his or her chum will be flown from Hawke's Bay Airport to and from the track.
"We'll give them something to remember," was how Mr Murphy put it.
"You get varied reactions from people but, yeah, they get suitably excited. It's the braking that blows them away because they start wondering if you're ever going to stop."
He said he was happy to step in and offer the experience for two reasons.
The main one was his admiration for the rescue helicopter service, which like other services throughout the country, did "an amazing job".
Besides that, he likes helicopters.
He said he found it "a bit disturbing" that organisations like the Lowe Corporation Rescue, which did such so much good and vital work, needed to fundraise so much to continue.
"So it is one of those things you get behind and if I can play my part I will."
In terms of racing there's not a lot on the calendar this year but he said he had a diary full of media commitments.
"That takes a fair bit of my time," he said, adding though he was happy to make time to do his bit for the fundraising mission.
The event is being staged at Lindisfarne College on June 19 and the organisers are hoping to repeat or better last year's big auction evening when $60,000 was raised.
Hastings Karamu Rotary president Bill Livingstone said the club was extremely proud of the ongoing success of the cocktail party fundraiser as well as the continuing support from sponsors and donors.
"Many have been on board since the inaugural party in 1992."
Hawke's Bay Rescue Helicopter Trust chairman Andy Train said the organisation was "extremely grateful" for what the annual event raised. He said the service relied heavily on support and contributions from individuals, businesses and community groups and each year the trust fundraised more than $1.2million to help keep it operating.
