This week's weather will be a mixed bag including clear sunny days and some cooler nights with frost expected.
Cool south-westerlies are due to arrive this morning, bringing cooler weather and a few showers, with the showers ending in the afternoon.
"As the front and the south-westerlies build in youwill notice a pretty considerable drop in temperatures," Metservice meteorologist Nick Zacher said. "The south westerlies will be nice and gusty, strong at times especially about the coast, and will be persistent until about Tuesday."
As the high-pressure system made its presence known around Wednesday, nights would be cooler with the possibility of frosts.
"It should be great weather days towards the middle of the week but unfortunately there is another front moving up from the south.
"Late Thursday and Fridays north-westerly winds pick up and, just in time for the start of the weekend, there will be a front moving through bringing increasing cloud and a chance of showers."
Federated Farmers Hawke's Bay president Will Foley said there was growing concern about low soil moisture levels for this time of year.
"[Farmers] will really appreciate a good shower of rain. If the [seasonally] dry weather continues there is a real concern we will dry out really quickly."
