When the students of Project Prima Volta (PPV) go on stage they are not just performing - but gaining the confidence to take good risks.

They were given the opportunity to do so last night at the Blyth Performing Arts Centre to announce La Boheme as the new Festival Opera production, for which they will appear on stage again.

A Festival Opera director Anna Pierard said PPV gave its students abilities beyond just being able to go on stage.

"What people forget about the arts is that life forces you into tricky situations and being able to manage yourself a life skill which is underestimated by those not in the industry."

PPV is the youth initiative of Festival Opera, which aim to provide an opportunity for young people to express themselves and realise their possibilities.
