Three musically minded business students got their first taste of success, when they were presented with a Rockshop Album of the Year Award.
The trio - Tim Keip, 18, Eamon Lesperrance and Shane Wichman both 17 - entered a compilation CD comprising music from 16 of their fellow students, to take out the top prize.
Former Split Enz bass player and head of Play It StrangeTrust, Mike Chunn, mentored the young Havelock North High School pupils and was on hand to present them with the award this week.
"We put together recordings of some of my music students ... and it was that album they produced and used as a business plan," Havelock North High School music teacher Ben Throp said.
Songs from the compilation will be performed live at an annual Sleeping Giant Showcase for senior Havelock High musicians on Thursday, October 30 at Napier's MTG, Century Theatre.
