Schools in Hastings have been placed on alert after reports of a stranger offering a young student a ride to school last week.
A police spokesperson says an incident was reported in the Camberley area on May 9, and there had been "a number of other reports of suspicious approaches" in the wider Hastings in recent weeks.
Havelock North Primary School responded by telling its community that police had advised of incidents in the Camberley, Heretaunga, Frimley and Hastings Girls High School area "where children have been approached by someone trying to entice children into their car".
"A reminder to your children around safety and strangers might be a good idea" the school posted on Facebook.
Police say that patrols have been stepped up as a result of the reports.
