A racing go-kart, its customised enclosed trailer and several training go-karts stolen from the Hawke's Bay Karting Club's track five months ago are still missing, despite two men being charged and awaiting proceedings in Napier District Court.
Dyllan John Henderson, 29, of Hastings, and Craig Jason Kent, 29, of Tikokino, are on remand to appear in court again on January 15, facing a charge of burgling the club's facilities on the weekend of July 25-26, between a training day on the Saturday and a race day on the Sunday.
Stolen were a specialised racing go-kart raced by Ronan Murphy, its steel-sided trailer and six training machines owned by the club.
The haul was valued at about $40,000, and it could have been worse - burglars fled an apparent second raid when disturbed by a security patrol two days later. Two more karts had been removed from containers, but were left at the track.
Senior Constable Pehi Potaka, of the Hawke's Bay police tactical crime squad, said two of the training karts were found in Carterton several weeks after the theft. They had been altered, but were returned to the club.
