State Highway 2 'drop-out' near Wairoa being repaired

Part of the region's road works list is the widening of the Taradale Rd to Prebensen Dr link with speed limits and cones in place.

Roading contractors have kicked off a repair programme near Wairoa in the wake of recent heavy rainfalls.

Crews are working on a drop-out on State Highway 2 near the Wairoa River just south of the town and the work will mean that at times the road will be down to just one lane with speed limits and stop-go signalling in place.

Similar restrictions will also be in place just north of Wairoa on SH2 around Te Uhi Hill where seal widening work is under way.

The work programmes are among a string of highway projects being carried out across the region — among them wire rope barrier work which an NZ Transport Agency spokesman said was being carried out at several "active" sites.

Among them is the Expressway link stretch between Taradale Rd and Prebensen Dr where seal widening is also being carried out.

Wire barriers are being installed along the centre of the road between Flaxmere Ave and the Longlands roundabout as well as between Omahu Rd and Flaxmere Ave.

Temporary speed limits are in place at the sites.

Limits are also in place on the major passing-lane widening project on SH2 between Hawke's Bay Airport and Bay View.

From Bay View through to Devil's Elbow road-marking will be taking place and the NZTA is advising drivers to take care when passing the mobile marking trucks.

Marking is also taking place at sites along SH5 between Napier and Taupo.
