An outdated and "stale" Waimarama Beach Day has been cancelled for the foreseeable future.
The More FM Waimarama Beach Day is an annual attraction which began in the early 1990s, with a pageant crowning Mr and Miss Waimarama a major drawcard for the day.
The event is the biggest annualfundraiser for the Waimarama Surf Lifesaving Club.
Club chairman Tony Pattison said they were looking at refreshing the event.
"We are looking to refresh the event as has become stale with decline in attendance and in the last three years has been impacted by the weather.
The event had been postponed this year due to the risk of sewage mixing with floodwater because of blocked toilet facilities. When it was eventually held in early February, organisers had noted it was quieter than usual.
