"We've been talking about this for five years and it's finally happening. Someone had to put their hand up," drainlayer Milne said.
They have been taking Donaldson's Falcon ute to competitions since 2005. Last month Donaldson, who is self employed, became the first driver to win the annual Morrinsville showdown twice.
"I've had a number of firsts at comps in Morrinsville, Dargaville, Masterton and Levin along with at least 30 podium finishes over the years," Donaldson recalled.
He won't be competing at the November 28 comp as he intends to help Milne run the show.
"We've got some big money cars coming. Hopefully it's the first of many to come at Meeanee," Donaldson said.
"It's awesome to be able to put on a demo at the speedway's annual Fireworks Spectacular meeting. We'll be the early fireworks," Milne quipped.
Speedway classes in action tonight will be superstocks, TQs, ministocks, stockcars and saloons. Five-time national karting champion Maddison Wise will be among the starters in the superstock class.
Wise will be running Mac Kwok's Super Tank this season and tonight's meeting will be his first since he rolled Matt Demanser's car in the second heat when competing in last summer's National Under-25s meeting. It will be interesting to see how competitive he can be against the Bay's big guns, Thomas Stanaway, Quinn Ryan and Magpies rugby prop Jason Long, who will be looking to build on their hot form from opening night a fortnight ago.
In TQ action expect two-time national champion Craig Todd to capitalise on the absence of his cousin, fellow two-time national champion and the incumbent, Duane Todd, and extend his lead on the club points ladder. Their clubmate Christine Bargh returned to the class on opening night after a season off and it will be a surprise if she doesn't record a top-three finish tonight.
Former motocross rider Matt Goodgame will be aiming for a longer night in Mark Alexander's car after a first-heat roll ended his night's racing at the opening meet. Auckland visitors will again contribute to the top-shelf quality of this class.
With the stockcar division's "Mr Consistent" from opening night, Randal Tarrant, away teams racing in the South Island with the KB Cowboys, his clubmates will have the opportunity to overtake him on the club points ladder. Among those with the best chance are the father-daughter pair of Tony and Jemma Palmer.
Hawke's Bay's top ministock driver, Regan Penn, is the current points leader at both the Meeanee and Palmerston North tracks. Expect Cameron Swift and Jakob Flynn to push Penn hard and one of the youngest in the class, Ethan Dorward, to continue his impressive form from opening night.
Flynn's father Grant will have his first outing of the season in his Super Saloon. He will be aiming to stop his brother and national champion Steve Flynn from producing a repeat of his three wins from as many starts on opening night.
The Flynn brothers will seek polished rehearsals in the countdown to the November 21 first round in the Burger King Pro Dirt Series for their class at Meeanee. Their clubmate, saloon class driver George Hildred, boasts the nickname "Hotdog" because of the excessive number of hotdogs he puts away during a meeting.
However his form on the track on opening night was equally hot and he will be all-out to keep the more fancied starters in his class including Darren Melling, Steven Martin, Chris Tout and Tim Towler honest.
Gates open at 6pm and racing begins at 7pm.
