Specialist crisis negotiators spent four hours on Thursday evening with an injured man, armed with a knife, who was reported to have locked himself in a vehicle.
The car was located in Henderson St in the Central Hawke's Bay settlement of Otane, 37km from Hastings.
It was not thought to involve any ongoing threat to any other person, but no further details were immediately available from police.
The incident was reported to police at 4pm, and is understood to have been resolved just before 8pm.
