The reduction in the size of the National caucus means Mr Walford - as number 63 on the party's list - slips from second to third in line for a seat in Parliament as MPs leave between now and the next election.
"For me it's just about marching on and getting prepared for the next election," said Mr Walford, who has returned to his job as chief executive of the Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce.
In the Tukituki electorate, National's Craig Foss's 5800 election night majority over Labour's Anna Lorck increased to 6490 with the final result, and though it was down on 2011 Mr Foss said he was pleased with the outcome.
While he said being the local MP was "job number one", Prime Minister John Key will today announce a new cabinet, with Mr Foss expected to hold several portfolios.
New Wairarapa MP Alastair Scott's majority over Labour's Kieran McAnulty rose from 6228 to 6771 while in Ikaroa-Rawhiti Labour's Meka Whaitiri increased her election night margin of 4288 over Mana's Te Hamua Nikora to 4673 votes.
Ms Whaitiri said her aim was to work hard in her electorate, which stretches from the top of the East Cape to the Wellington region, and one key focus would be questioning the economic and environmental benefits promised through the proposed Ruataniwha dam project.
Saturday's final results ended a period of uncertainty for another Ikaroa-Rawhiti candidate, Marama Fox.
Ms Fox, who ran third in the east coast Maori seat and was also number two on the Maori Party list, was confirmed as a list MP after the party secured 1.32 per cent of the list vote (up from 1.29 per cent on election night).
She is the first Maori Party candidate to enter Parliament as a list MP since the party was established in 2004 and joins Rotorua-based Waiariki MP and party leader Te Ururoa Flavell in the House.
Under the Maori Party's constitution, Ms Fox's position in Parliament means she will take over as co-leader from former MP Tariana Turia following the party's annual meeting at the end of the month. However, Ms Fox said it was important to her that she received a strong mandate from the meeting to do so.
She said while her role as a list MP had a nationwide focus, she would continue to take a strong interest in issues affecting Ikaroa-Rawhiti.
