Road clean-up work in the wake of the rainstorms which swept across Hawke's Bay a fortnight ago is continuing on two main highways and motorists can expect travel delays.
Contractors are working at slip sites between Tutira and Tangoio on SH2 between Napier and Wairoa as well as on SH5 between Napier and Taupo where slips came down between Eskdale and Te Pohue.
The Eskdale and Rissington regions were particularly hard hit by the storms which saw about 300mm of rain fall, with about half coming down in a three-hour heavy burst.
It was enough to breach river banks and led to flooding, and at its height both SH2 and SH5 were briefly closed because of surface flooding and slips.
Temporary speed restrictions and stop-go signalling are in place at the clearance sites.
