Two separate multiple-vehicle crashes on the Hawke's Bay Expressway between the intersections with Omahu Rd and Evenden Rd on Thursday at about 4:45pm saw one person go to hospital with serious injuries.

One crash opposite the Mitre 10 Regional Sports Park involved four cars, with one person going to hospital and another sustaining minor injuries.

The other crash nearer the Omahu Rd roundabout involved two cars, with no injuries sustained.

The scenes were cleared by 5:40pm save for one car blocking one of the northbound lanes near the Evenden Rd roundabout.
