Hawke's Bay put a second hand on a piece of Lotto history on Saturday despite missing-out on the big prize of over $24 million.
A ticket sold at Marewa Pharmacy, Napier, with the serial number 589-62129975-20xx, was the last drawn to take part in a spin of the Winning Wheel.
It is likely, however, to be an off-air spin, Lotto having previously confirmed next week's Winning Wheel spin, from the May 30 draw with a ticket bought at Andrew Spence Pharmacy, Onekawa, will be the last shown during the regular Saturday night Lotto draws on TV2.
The big winner was the holder of a ticket bought at Springfield Superette and Lotto, Rotorua, the Lotto numbers 8, 9, 13, 18, 25, and 33 plus the No 3 Powerball sealing a prize of over $24 million, comprising the Powerball jackpot of $23,800,822 and a $500,000 half-share of the Lotto first division pool.
It was the seventh-largest prize in the 28-year history of Lotto in New Zealand with all seven going to the North Island, and all but the top-ranking $36.9 million Big Wednesday strike by a Masterton family six years ago being sold in the Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty areas.
