A young man was yesterday sentenced to three years' jail for joining his younger brother in street-level methamphetamine dealing in Napier.
Devoy Sharma, 22, had pleaded guilty to a charge of supplying methamphetamine and his sentencing yesterday came after a hearing before Judge Geoff Rea in Napier District Court disputing police claims that he was involved at a commercial level.
In January, brother Deepak Kumar Sharma, now 20, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for offences after police stopped him in a car on July 16 last year with new and used deal bags, a deal utensil and a tick-list of clents in a cigarette packet in the glove box.
Elsewhere in the vehicle, police found a machete, a methamphetamine pipe and another tick-list.
After finding a cellphone, police used search warrants to obtain text and call details which ultimately connected the brothers in sales of methamphetamine.
Interviewed by police six days later, Devoy Sharma admitted being involved, saying: "It was to support my own habit".
