Big-band sounds, the swirl of tartan and an ode to the haggis are all on offer at a Scottish Festival fundraiser at the Dannevirke Services and Citizens Club on Saturday night.

Dannevirke's Rawhiti Lodge No 66 is running the event to raise money to assist the Guardian Angels to put on a Christmas dinner at the Town Hall on December 25 for up to 160 people.

The Guardian Angels is a group made up from the Akitio Fire Force, the Masonic Lodge, Dannevirke and Districts RSA and church groups who want ensure those on their own, or unable to have their own Christmas Day meal, can come together and enjoy an afternoon of friendship and celebration.

The Scottish Festival will include a haggis ceremony, entertainment from the Dannevirke Highland Pipe Band and the Dannevirke Brass Band, including some spectacular combined music, the Celtic Cuz husband and wife duo of Paddy and Ngaroma Driver and a charity auction.

Last year the Rawhiti Lodge members raised an impressive $1500 for charity from their Scottish evening with everyone enjoying plenty of laughter and some fantastic foot-tapping music and singing and of course, a wee dram or two, to wash down the haggis and the supper.

Scottish Festival:

• 6.30pm Saturday, October 6, at Dannevirke Services and Citizens Club - courtesy van available. * Tickets just $10 includes light supper - everyone welcome.
• Tickets are available from the Dannevirke Information Centre or by ringing John Turner on 06 374-8052 or Graeme Evans 027 247-0231.
