I hate clothes shopping.

I realise this is a bit of an anomaly as the majority of women seem to absolutely love hitting the shops but clothes and I have never had a good relationship.

I've never been a thin girl; I have broad shoulders and what my grandmother fondly refers to as "child-bearing hips".

Add a passion for chocolate and bread and you can see why I might not quite fit into size 10 pants, which for many years made me want to hide as much of myself as I could.

I also have no fashion sense. I simply cannot tell what ensembles work together, so I generally live in a uniform of jeans and simple tops.

It took me a long time to find a style of jeans that suited my figure.

Low-rise jeans, which I did squeeze myself in to for a few years, produced that dreaded roll above the waistline.

I would say muffin top but muffins are delicious and what I was exhibiting was anything but that.

Boyfriend jeans always make me feel I'm wearing nappies, and don't even get me started on those horrible "jeannings" that look like jeans but are actually leggings.

No, I confess the good old mid to high-rise "mum jeans" are the ones for me.

Which is ironic because when searching for maternity jeans, they were the only ones I couldn't find!

I know there are women out there with gorgeous figures who still have amazing legs even when they are pregnant, but surely I'm not the only one who does NOT want to squeeze myself into skinny jeans while growing a baby?

I went to seven stores and all had only one style of maternity jeans available - bane of my life, stupid, not for girls with legs like mine, skinny jeans!

Who on earth feels skinny while they're pregnant?

Who wants to wear jeans that are tight on normal legs, let alone legs sporting extra fluid?

Just when I'd decided a sack would suffice for the next seven months, I finally found some lovely wide-legged jeans with a giant elastic band around the waist.

Not only will they accommodate my growing belly (mostly from a serious increase in food at this stage) but have so much extra room I'll be able to carry my baby around in them after the birth like a little joey. Handy!
